What is an Osteopractor?

An Osteopractor is a physical therapist, medical doctor, or doctor of osteopathic medicine that has completed an evidence-based post-doctoral training program in the use of spinal and extremity thrust manipulation, dry needling, instrument-assisted manual therapies, and differential diagnostics for the diagnosis and treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. When you break a bone, you look for an orthopedist, not a general medical doctor. When you have a skin condition, you go to a dermatologist. Likewise, when you have neck pain, low back pain, headaches, tennis elbow, heel pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc., it makes sense to look for a specialist within physical therapy, such as an Osteopractic Physical Therapist.

Currently, there are less than 400 Osteopractors worldwide, and our Osteopractic Physical Therapist who is the only practicing Osteopractor in Southeast Michigan.

Do you take my insurance?

We are considered “out-of-network” with all insurance companies. Insurance companies control reimbursements and bias your in network physical therapy clinic towards time consuming exercises to make money. This also leads to in-network physical therapy clinics seeing 2-4 patients per hour. Our out-of-network treatment model allows us to see patients one-on-one.

Furthermore, as of January 1, 2020, Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield consider dry needling and spinal manipulation to be “non-covered” procedures. Our treatment model allows us to perform procedures (such as dry needling and spinal manipulation) that Medicare, BCBS and other third-party payers deem as “non-covered.”

Lastly, you will never be surprised by a bill. All of our treatments are covered under one cost and are specifically tailored to treat your condition.

Upon request, we can provide you with a superbill that will contain all the information needed for reimbursement from your insurance company. In many cases, our clients can get reimbursed 50-80% of the cost of a visit depending on their out-of-network benefits from their insurance company.

What are your rates?

We charge $249 for an initial evaluation. From there, follow up visits range from $175 to $249 depending on which treatment package is selected. We also have membership packages for continued management of care after completion of a plan of care. There are no hidden costs.

Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?

Dry needling and acupuncture both use the same exact filiform needles. However, dry needling is based on Western medical research, while acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and is used to move energy (“Qi”) along Meridians for the treatment of diseases.

Dry needling is a modern science based treatment for the dysfunction of musculoskeletal conditions. Dry needling directly treats the neuromuscular system affecting muscle tightness, joint mobility, and painful symptoms, along with improving athletic performance.

I’ve had dry needling done before, how are you different?

Dry needling, like manual therapy, is an umbrella term. Just like in manual therapy, there are many different techniques, dry needling also has many different techniques. When most practitioners talk about dry needling, they are specifically doing trigger point dry needling. While trigger point dry needling can be effective (depending on how it’s done), it is limited to only treating muscles.

The way we perform dry needling is much more than just treating trigger points. We are able to treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints (conditions like arthritis), musculotendinous junctions (where muscles and tendons meet), teno-osseous junctions (where tendons and bone meet), peri-neural structures (conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome), and peri-vascular structures (to help improve blood circulation). We recognize that this sounds like a lot, however it is one reason why our dry needling techniques go way beyond traditional physical therapists. If you have had dry needling done without positive results, this may have been the missing piece.

What’s more is that we are able to perform dry needling under ultrasound guidance. This means that we are able to use ultrasound imaging to get a view of what we are treating, and we are able to insert a needle into the problem area in order to ensure that we got to your symptom generator.
